Zizkov gained its name by famous Hussite commander Jan Zizka of Trocnov, who defeated here the army of the Emperor Sigismund in 1420. Nowadays his victory is commemorated by his equestrian statue. But the most conspicuous structure is the gigantic TV transmitter, which was built at the end of the communist era. Traditionally the district has been inhabited by poorer classes and therefore has its special flavour. You can easily come here both from the Main Railway Station and the bus station Florenc. The number of hotels is relatively high, so yuo should be lucky when looking for accomodation in this area.
