Vysehrad located on a cliff above the Vltava River in the south of Prague is another important landmark of Czech history. In the 11th and 12th centuries this place successfully competed with the Castle as the seat of Czech princes. It’s also connected with ancient legends and myths. Legendary princess Libuse reputedly prophesied from here about the future of Prague that its glory should reach the stars. At the beginning of the 20th century the Slavin Cemetery was founded here, where many reputable personalities of Czech culture are buried: eg. writers Neruda and Capek or composers Smetana and Dvorak. As it is a very small district, you won’t find many hotels here. You can find a hotel also in neighbouring quarters Nove Mesto or Podoli.
