Smichov lies on the left bank of the Vltava southwest of the city centre and is a part of the administrative district Prague 5. You can easily reach it by four bridges over the river from the New Town. Smichov forms the core of one of the largest areas of Prague – the South West Town. The quarter is known for its brewery which produces the favourite beer brand Staropramen. But it is associated with cultural and scientific life too. In 1787 W.A. Mozart was staying here in the villa Bertramka, where he completed his opera Don Giovanni. Another famous inhabitant was A. Einstein, who worked at the German University in Prague from 1911 to 1912 and was staying in Smichov in Vinicna Street. You can easily reach this quarter by metro (Line B, Stations: Andel, Smichovske nadrazi). Smichov hotels can be a good alternative for the centre of Prague. The number of hotels is rather high, so you should not have problems, when looking for suitable accommodation.
